3. THE LEARNING SKILLS CURRICULUM ™
THE LEARNING SKILLS CURRICULUM ™ is a new approach to teaching children and young people how to become more confident, curious, independent learners.
An 8-year evaluation carried out at the University of Cambridge found that THE LEARNING SKILLS CURRICULUM ™ led to significantly improved attainment across the curriculum, with accelerated gains among children from disadvantaged backgrounds (Mannion, McAllister and Mercer, 2018)
In 2020 we published Fear is the Mind Killer: Why Learning to Learn deserves lesson time - and how to make it work for your pupils, which sets out how to implement THE LEARNING SKILLS CURRICULUM ™ in detail.
Here are some of the kind things people have written about the book:
We now work with schools all over the world to help implement THE LEARNING SKILLS CURRICULUM ™ in a wide range of contexts: from early years to adult education, from disadvantaged schools to elite international colleges, and from workplaces to refugee camps.
For example, we recently helped implement a LEARNING SKILLS CURRICULUM ™ at Knysna High School in South Africa. The following video testimonials were filmed three months after implementing daily LEARNING SKILLS lessons for all students in Years 8 and 9:
“I could see the difference within two weeks”
“It's definitely changing a lot of kids' lives”

“They've gained such confidence”
“It allows them to say what they want to say without being judged”
“One boy who never does any work handed in 5 pages, all typed up. Done and dusted!”
“Learning Skills provides the students with a safe space”

"It just worked phenomenally!"
“It is a joy - I just want to do this all the time!”
“It's already spreading throughout the school”
"At first I wasn't sure about this project... and then it's like the light bulb just went on!”
“They don't want to stop public speaking!”

“I did not see it having quite such a big impact so quickly”
