Who’s afraid that they are indoctrinating?

The content of the curriculum is becoming more politicised, and this is generating considerable anxiety amongst teachers. This session will explore the debate over indoctrination within English education. We will examine some different ways of thinking about indoctrination, as well as two controversial case studies: Critical Race Theory and British Values.

Toby Marshall is an A Level teacher of Film Studies and is also a writer and researcher on educational issues including indoctrination. He is most interested in the relationship between politics and knowledge within education and is currently writing a book entitled A Short Guide to the National Curriculum for Student Teachers.
