Cost of the School Day: Pupils’ Perspectives on Poverty and Education

Based on action-research carried out with pupils, parents and school staff through Child Poverty Action Group and Children North East’s UK Cost of the School Day project, this session will explore how schools can change policies and practices to be more inclusive for those experiencing poverty.

Kate is the Project Lead for CPAG’s UK Cost of the School Day project. This project puts children in the lead of ‘poverty proofing’ their schools and seeks to identify and address financial barriers to education. Kate has spent the last three years at CPAG working across the UK to understand how poverty affects participation in education, and what can be done about it.
